Shimelle Scrapbooking Day Entries

Last saturday was (Inter) National Scrapbooking Day and Shimelle hosted a day of fun and challenges on her blog for what she refers to as 'Scrapbooking Day' with giveaways for joining in, here are my entries:

Cheeky Challenge Tuesday - 3 Key Phrases

'Not The Best Models'

Today's challenge is inspired by the layout above which is from my honeymoon album. The photos were taken in Central Park, New York City. I spent ages trying to get a photo of these pesky squirrels, would they pose for me? Not a chance! Luckily I am nothing if not persistant and managed to trick aforementioned pesky squirrel to pose for me in the end (this mostly involved whistling and pretending I had food).

Your challenge is to create a layout using three key phrases as your starting point, the layout can be on any theme you want. For example, if one of the phrases was 'zig zags' you could for example, use a  punched edge on  patterned paper under your photo. Or, you could use ric rac on your page for example, interpret them how you wish.

Today's 3 Key Phrases are:

- Multi-photos.

- Journaling Strips.

- Rub-ons.

Cheeky Challenge Tuesday - 3 Key Phrases

Today's challenge is inspired by the layout above which shows a selection of photos of my mum from when she was 'Just A Girl.' Your challenge is to create a layout using three key phrases as your starting point, the layout can be on any theme you want. For example, if one of the phrases was 'Circles' you could for example, layer circles punched from patterned paper under your photo. Or, you could use photos with circles in them, interpret them how you wish.

Today's 3 Key Phrases are:
- Vintage.
- Grid.
- Vertical Title.

Cheeky Challenge Tuesday

Welcome to Cheeky Challenge Tuesday, today's challenge for you is to use photo-corners, they can be whatever size you like, maybe you want to use four small ones to frame your page like I have, or maybe you just want to use one extra large one to create a statement. This layout is from my Document 2010 album.

Cheeky Challenge Tuesday - Tell A Story

Welcome back to Cheeky Challenge Tuesday, today is a short and simple challenge inspired by comic books. Your challenge this week is to use a grid of photos to tell a story, either a series of events or snapshots from one event like I have done below. I would suggest at least 6 photos, but really it's up to you, maybe you could use four larger photos such as 6x4, or fill the page with lots of 2x3 size images.

Below is the layout that inspired this challenge, it is from my Honeymoon album. Here I have used Sassafras Lass paper, and the arrows have been cut from American Crafts paper. The photos are some of the hundreds I took on our honeymoon last year, these ones from Central Park Wildlife Centre show a Puffin who went absolutely mental when it saw me through the glas. I think it might have been the red coat I had on, maybe it's not just bulls that have issues with the colour red. I have to say I was very grateful for the glass between us.

Cheeky Challenge Tuesday - Extend Your Stash!

Today is a two-part challenge, if you do the first part the second part will be easier. If you do the second part, it will stretch your stash out more and use paper that would otherwise be wasted. 

1. Use a large photo, at least 7x5, the larger the photo, the better.

2. Once you've chosen where your photo will go it is time to gut your paper. Firstly, mark lighly in pencil the corners of where your photo will be, then measure an inch or so in and draw a rectangle. This section is what you will cut out, so cut it out either with a craft knife or, it's quicker with a paper trimmer, but be careful not to go over the lines. This will work better with double-sided paper, but even if the back is just white, you could always stamp a journaling block on the spare piece, or stamp images and cut them out to make embellishments.

Below is the layout that inspired this challenge, it is from my wedding album. Here I have used Bo Bunny paper, and the block of black paper is the piece I have gutted from behind the photo.
